WADS Welcomes New Canadian Detachment Commander

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — The Canadian Detachment at the Western Air Defense Sector officially changed command Tuesday. Lt. Col. Michael Fawcett assumed command from Lt. Col. Matthew Wappler, who finished a three-year tour of duty as the Canadian Detachment commanding officer. Fawcett’s responsibilities will include leading the 15-member Canadian Detachment and serving as part of the WADS staff. Wappler is transferring to 1 Canadian Air Division in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the senior staff officer for Aerospace Capabilities and Readiness.

Members of Joint Task Force Civil Support participated in the Vista Crossing Tabletop Exercise and International CBRN Summit hosted by U.S. Northern Command and held at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado June 12-13, 2018. The
participants represented Federal and National Guard military, DoD civilians, and interagency and industry members. JTF-CS provides command and control for designated Department of Defense specialized response forces to assist local, state, federal and tribal partners in saving lives, preventing further injury, and providing critical support to enable community recovery.
