CFSCC Canadian exchange officer receives award for heroic actions

A Canadian exchange officer assigned to the Combined Force Space Component Command received a Canadian Chief of the Defence Staff Commendation award on June 15, 2021, for his decisive and helpful actions when responding to a local vehicle accident nearly a year ago. Royal Canadian Air Force Sergeant Michael Fuller, an operations flight chief with the 18th Space Control Squadron, received the Canadian award before a small audience of U.S. and international coworkers at the Combined Space Operations Center. Royal Canadian Air Force Lt. Gen. Alain Pelletier, the deputy commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, officiated the ceremony virtually.

CONR-1AF conducts first-ever in theater C-17 special refueling operations during AD 21-1

In support of the North American Aerospace Defense and Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) homeland defense missions, Continental U.S. NORAD Region – 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern) achieved a first-ever milestone June 16 when U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 140th Wing, Buckley Space Force Base, Aurora, Colo., and the 4th Airlift Squadron, McChord Air Force Base, Wash., performed a C-17 wet-wing refueling during exercise Amalgam Dart 21-01 at Thule Air Base, Greenland.

Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a federal crime that can net offenders up to five years in jail or cost them a $250,000 fine. Even with this heavy potential penalty, laser strikes have become increasingly more common. According to the FAA, 6,852 such incidents were reported in 2020, compared with 385 in 2006, and so far this year, incidents of “joy lasing” are up 20 percent over last year. Cheap and easily obtained, hand-held lasers used as pointers and cat toys are certainly harmless when used as intended. But when they are aimed at the cockpit of an aircraft, they can temporarily blind the pilot — with possibly deadly consequences.
