It’s cool outside as the sun drops and families settle in for the night just as they do each day in the Pacific Northwest. At the dinner table, slight vibrations are felt and seen as drinks sway in their glasses -- a subtle sign of just another small tremor, one of hundreds that occur yearly in this region. Just as quickly as it’s dismissed by desensitized residents though, it shakes the ground again … this time not so subtly. This is no small, normal tremor.

Statement by Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO — Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan paid his first visit to the North American Aerospace Defense Command Headquarters (NORAD) at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado today. During his visit, he met with Admiral Bill Gortney, Commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command, and Canadian Lieutenant-General Pierre St-Amand, Deputy Commander of NORAD. Discussions focused on a number of issues important to the Canada-U.S. defence relationship, including continental defence, new challenges to North American aerospace defence and NORAD's continuing evolution to meet those challenges.

New NORAD Deputy Commander hosts this year’s Canada Day Celebrations in Colorado Springs

Celebrating Canada Day in Colorado Springs has been a longstanding tradition in the region. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), will participate, with the Mexican Air Force, in AMALGAM EAGLE 15, a tactical exercise, to be conducted Jun.30 - Jul.2, 2015, in which Mexico and the United States will respond to an illegal flight transiting the border of both countries. AMALGAM EAGLE 15 is designed to enhance air control procedures between both countries and lay the foundation to streamline a bi-national response.
