Canadian Air Defence Sector introduces new cloud-based command-and-control system

NORAD's Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS), located at 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) North Bay, recently carried out a demonstration of a new cloud-based command and control (CBC2) software integrator, a milestone in the modernization of the service's tactical command and control capabilities.

New aircrew badge announcement made at 22 Wing North Bay

NORTH BAY, Ontario — The Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force unveiled the new Airborne Warning and Control System aircrew badge (‘wings’) at North Bay’s 22 Wing/Canadian Air Defence Sector on Oct. 23, 2020. The badge was converted from the current upswept flight crew specialty badge to the more appropriate out-stretched full wing Aircrew Flying badge and will be worn by AWACS qualified Aerospace Controllers and Aerospace Control Operators. The timing of this ceremony was fitting given that October 2020 marks the 80th anniversary of air defence operations in the RCAF.

Operation Noble Defender

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — North American Aerospace Defense Command conducted a dynamic force employment operation in the Arctic Sept. 20-23, 2020. The broad operation spanned all three NORAD regions, including continental U.S., Alaska, and Canada.

1 Canadian Air Division welcomes new commander

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — The change of command ceremony for 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command Region -- held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, July 6 and streamed live on Royal Canadian Air Force social media -- saw Major-General Eric Kenny succeed Lieutenant-General Alain Pelletier as the new Commander of 1 CAD/CANR, Joint Force Air Component Commander, and Trenton Search and Rescue Region.

CC-150 Polaris tanker fleet reaches NORAD milestone

TRENTON, Ontario — The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Canadian NORAD Region (CANR) achieved initial operating capability for their fleet of CC-150 Polaris air-to-air refuelling tankers, operated by 437 Transport Squadron, from Trenton, Ontario, on July 1, 2020.
