NORAD AND USNORTHCOM CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY

NORAD AND USNORTHCOM CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Air Force Gen. Lori Robinson, former Commander, Pacific Air Forces 
will assume Command of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, 
during a ceremony at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, May 13, in Hangar 1 on Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

Gen. Robinson will assume Command from Navy Adm. Bill Gortney, who is scheduled to retire in June 
in Norfolk, Va.  A media availability will be held after the change of command.

The ceremony can be viewed live May 13 at 10 a.m. at www.defense.gov.

NORAD is a bi-national military command between the U.S. and Canada, charged with the missions of 
aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning in the defense of North America.
USNORTHCOM partners to conduct homeland defense, civil support and security cooperation to defend 
and secure the United States and its interests.

NOTE TO MEDIA: Media interested in attending this event must RSVP to NORAD and USNORTHCOM Public 
Affairs at 719-554-6889 by Wednesday, May 11 and plan on arriving at the Peterson AFB West Gate no 
later than 7:45 a.m. Friday, May 13.

Vehicles will be searched and inspected by Security Forces personnel before proceeding to the 
change of command ceremony location on base. A valid government-issued photo I.D. is required for 
personnel entry. Each vehicle driver is required to produce a valid driver’s license, current 
vehicle registration and proof of insurance before entry on base is allowed. A media caravan will 
depart the Visitors' Center for Hangar 1 by 8:15 a.m. The ceremony should conclude at 11 a.m., and 
media representatives will be escorted off base or to the live shot location of choice to include 
the NORAD and USNORTHCOM headquarters.
