PETERSON AIR FORCE
BASE, Colo. – North
American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command will welcome Navy
Adm. Bill Gortney as its new commander during a change of command ceremony at
10 a.m., Dec. 5, in Hangar 1 on Peterson AFB, Colo.
Admiral Gortney takes over from Army Gen.
Charles Jacoby Jr., who is retiring after 36 years of service.
The ceremony will include cannon and rifle
fire.
Base security will be heightened in advance
of the ceremony. The ceremony is open to people with access to Peterson AFB.
NORAD is a bi-national military command
between the U.S. and Canada, charged with the missions of aerospace warning,
aerospace control and maritime warning in the defense of North America.
USNORTHCOM partners to conduct homeland
defense, civil support and security cooperation to defend and secure the United
States and its interests.
