Media Opportunity at Canada Day Garden Party

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Media organizations are invited to cover the Canada Day Garden Party on July 1, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Last year’s event was cancelled out of respect to the citizens of Colorado Springs during the period of the Waldo Canyon Fire.

This year’s event will be held at historic Penrose House in Colorado Springs with Guest of Honour Mr. Neil MacDonald, renowned Canadian journalist and Washington Senior Correspondent for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Members of the media should arrive at 12:45 p.m.

WHERE: Penrose House, 1661 Mesa Avenue.

WHEN: 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In celebration of Canada’s 146th Birthday, the NORAD Deputy Commander (ND), Lieutenant-General Alain Parent invites Canadian Armed Forces members, guests and families at this special event to thank local community members and highlight the contribution of the Canadian Armed Forces community in Colorado Springs.

There will be cultural displays providing a great view of each province and territory including the Canadian Arctic.  The people accompanying the cultural displays are originally from these areas. Experts will be delighted to share insights and information about these great Canadian regions.

The Canadian community in Colorado Springs is vibrant and for the past 55 years since the signature of the NORAD Agreement, contributes to the safety and security of Canadians and Americans while participating to the well-being of the Colorado Springs community.

The Canada Day Garden Party is an annual social event sponsored by the Government of Canada through the Department of National Defence.
