Increased air operations out of Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada

North American Aerospace Defense Command Public Affairs

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) personnel and aircraft will conduct a planned, live-fly air operation, from July 16, 2023, out of Iqaluit, Nunavut.

The majority of the flights will take place over sparsely populated Arctic areas, and at high altitudes. However, the public will notice increased military flying activities at the Iqaluit Airport. This kind of operation is essential to ensure our personnel are prepared to respond to aerospace threats to Canada and the United States.

The defense of Canada and the United States is NORAD’s top priority. For 65 years, NORAD aircraft have identified and intercepted potential air threats to North America in the execution of the command’s aerospace warning and aerospace control missions.
