Utqiagvik, Alaska - Bowhead whale jaw bones extend from the frozen earth between the Arctic Ocean and the U.S.’ northernmost city of Utqiagvik, Alaska, Feb. 4, 2023. Little is known about the history of the symbolic “Gateway to the Arctic,” though some sources date it towards the end of the 19th century. Utqiagvik is home to Point Barrow Long Range Radar Site, which provides vital intelligence, enabling senior leaders to make timely informed decisions in defense of North America.
