Ann Arbor, Mich. - Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Crones (second from right), North American Aerospace Defense Command flag bearer, gives the orders to the NORAD Joint Color Guard and Michigan National Guard members during the singing of the Canadian and United States National Anthems at the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan 1, 2014. The Joint Color Guard featrured (from left to right) Guard/Rifle Bearer: Staff Sgt. Erik Belavy; American flag: Maj. Anthony Dennis; Canadian flag: CPO2 Eddy Berrouard, Royal Canadian Navy; Army flag: Staff Sgt. William Call; Navy flag: Petty Officer Kimberly Kirkpatrick; U.S. Marine Corps flag: Sergeant Christian McHugh; Air Force flag: Tech Sgt. Akenty Frazer; Coast Guard flag: Petty Officer 3 Oneness Sion-Zion King; NORAD flag: Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Crones; Guard/Rifle Bearer: Corporal Anthony Lyons. NORAD is extremely proud as a bi-national command to have participated in the first ever cross-border 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic with a NORAD color guard. A planned NORAD flyover was cancelled due to poor weather. NORAD has served the citizens of Canada and the United States as the first line of defense with its missions of Aerospace Warning, Aerospace Control and Maritime Warning. The Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic is a great example of the camaraderie that exists between our two nations, and thanks to NORAD since 1958, we enjoy one of the most extensive and long-standing defense partnership in the world. Through outstanding cooperation and cohesiveness between Canada and the United States, NORAD has proven itself effective in its roles of “deterring, detecting and defending” North America.
