ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska - Members of the 176th Air Control Squadron and representatives of the Russian Federation Air Force work side-by-side during Exercise VIGILANT EAGLE 2010 . The Russian Federation Air Force and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) are conducting a series of exercises that focuses on strengthening our cooperation and partnerships. The primary objective of the exercises is to work through the processes and procedures for the Russian Federation Air Force and NORAD to cooperatively handle a situation involving an incident of air terrorism. VE10 simulates a Boeing 757, belonging to a major aviation company on a regularly scheduled flight is taken over or ceased by terrorists and focuses on the coordination between the U.S. and Russian Federation Air Forces to monitor the aircraft as it crosses international boundaries.
