Allen Usry, NORAD and U.S. Northern Command command senior enlisted leader, hands the Noncommissioned Officer's Sword to a member of the Fort Carson Mounted Color Guard during the May 21 NORAD and U.S. Northern Command's Change of Responsibility ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. The sword is a symbol of the ability and prestige of enlisted leaders in the commands. The command sergeant major-as the senior enlisted leader- is the keeper of tradition for the unit. The emblematic passing of the sword of office signifies the transfer of this sacred trust from one command senior enlisted leader to another.
