NORAD, USNORTHCOM holds 9/11 remembrance ceremony

By NORAD and USNORTHCOM Public Affairs

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - U.S. military, Canadian Forces and civilians assigned to the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command attended a solemn remembrance ceremony in honor of those who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The ceremony, held at the NORAD and USNORTHCOM 9/11 Memorial, marked the 11th anniversary of the attacks.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Charles Luckey USA, NORAD and USNORTHCOM Chief of Staff, and Mr. Don Addy, former President of the National Homeland Defense Foundation, which donated the memorial to NORAD and USNORTHCOM in 2010, laid a wreath at the memorial after speaking to the assembled NORAD and USNORTHCOM members.

“First, last, always, this day is about freedom. Freedom from hate, freedom to be tolerant, to be free of intolerance, freedom to be merciful, freedom to seek justice, freedom to be forgiving and the freedom to love…those are the values that we hold most dear. Those are the values that this day inspires us to embrace anew,” said Luckey. “The best way we can honor the sacrifice and courage of those who lost their lives on this day is to re-infuse our lives with a sense of dedication, meaningful purpose and love.”

The attacks of September 11th led to the creation of USNORTHCOM, which will recognize its 10-year anniversary Oct 1.
