PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – The commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command gave a "state of the commands" testimony to the House Armed Services Committee March 18 in Washington, D.C.
Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart outlined the missions of both NORAD and USNORTHCOM and stated in his written testimony, “NORAD and USNORTHCOM are inextricably linked commands that have complementary missions and work closely together to protect our homelands. Incorporating an integrated headquarters staff, our commands have forged an indispensible partnership operating within a common security environment, and together are dedicated to defending the United States and Canada. The synergies that exist between these two commands enable us to conduct our missions with a sense of urgency in the face of very real threats.”
He addressed a number of topics explaining the commands role in homeland defense, ballistic missile defense, United States and Canadian sovereign airspace defense and civil support operations.
