Winnipeg, Man. – Depending on weather conditions tomorrow afternoon, Canadians in Québec may see Canadian fighter jets as they practice North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) intercept and identification procedures.
The training is scheduled to take place Wednesday, December 8 from approximately 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST. During the training period, people may hear and see CF-18 Hornet fighter aircraft in close proximity with contracted civilian-looking aircraft. To ensure the integrity of the training exercise, further details as to exact routes of the aircraft will not be released.
The exercise has been carefully planned and will be closely controlled to ensure NORAD’s rapid response capability.
NORAD is a bi-national United States and Canadian organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America.
