Winnipeg, Man. – Depending on weather conditions this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon, Canadians in southern British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan may see Canadian fighter jets as they practice North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) intercept and identification procedures.
The training is scheduled to take place Tuesday, December 7 from approximately 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. MST in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, and on Wednesday, December 8, from approximately 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in British Columbia and Alberta. During the training period, people may hear and see CF-18 Hornet fighter aircraft in close proximity with contracted civilian-looking aircraft. To ensure the integrity of the training exercise, further details as to exact routes of the aircraft will not be released.
These exercises have been carefully planned and will be closely controlled to ensure NORAD’s rapid response capability.
