PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command recognized their top performers for October-December 2007 during an awards ceremony Jan. 18 at the commands' headquarters on Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
Gen. Gene Renuart, NORAD and USNORTHCOM commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Wood, NORAD and USNORTHCOM command senior enlisted leader, presented the awards.
"[The award winners] represent the forward vision of this command," Renuart said. "They have the ability to rally around those in need and really make a difference."
The NORAD winners are:
Air Force Maj. Valerie Long, Intelligence Directorate, field grade officer;
Air Force Capt. Mark Walker, Operations Directorate, company grade officer;
Air Force Master Sgt. Scott Bergeski, Operations Directorate, senior enlisted; and
Air Force Staff Sgt. Christopher Newcomer, Cheyenne Mountain Directorate Operations, junior enlisted.
The USNORTHCOM winners are:
Air Force Lt. Col. William Alvey, Intelligence Directorate, field grade officer;
Army Maj. Patrice Harris, Programs, Resources and Analysis Directorate, reserve component field grade officer;
Air Force Lt. Eric Astle, Operations Directorate, company grade officer;
Army Capt. Richard Szabo, Training and Exercise Directorate, reserve component company grade officer;
Gunnery Sgt. Shawn Moran, Training and Exercise Directorate, senior enlisted; and
Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Jaime Viramontes, Command and Control Systems Directorate, junior enlisted.
The NORAD and USNORTHCOM civilians of the quarters are:
Joyce Frankovis, Public Affairs, Category I;
Roy Stanley, Intelligence Directorate, Category II; and
Scot Southard, Inspector General, Category III.
