PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct a series of exercise training flights over the National Capital Region Jan. 3-10.
Dubbed "Clear Skies VI," the exercise will involve NORAD F-16s and other aircraft from federal agencies flying at low altitudes along the Potomac River and around Washington. Citizens throughout the region may hear aircraft noise at various times throughout the week, especially Monday, during the early morning hours.
NORAD has conducted exercises of this nature throughout the United States and Canada since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and the start of Operation Noble Eagle. Training is conducted in a disciplined manner in a professional environment to ensure NORAD's rapid-response capability. For operational security reasons, NORAD is not discussing specific details of the exercise.
