LIEUTENANT-GENERAL IAIN HUDDLESTON, RCAF

Deputy Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command

Lieutenant-General (LGen) Iain Huddleston is a senior Royal Canadian Air Force officer with over three decades of service, known for his operational expertise, strategic leadership, and international experience.

A graduate of the Royal Military College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an alumnus of the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK, he earned his pilot wings in 1995 and has since logged over 5,600 flying hours on multiple airframes, including the CP-140 Aurora, Nimrod MR2, and CC-177 Globemaster III. His operational career includes deployments to the Middle East and an exchange with the Royal Air Force in Scotland.

LGen Huddleston has commanded both 429 Transport Squadron and 14 Wing Greenwood, where he led the deployment of the modernized CP-140 Aurora on Operation IMPACT. He has also served in Afghanistan and held senior staff roles within the Strategic Joint Staff and Defence Renewal Team.

Following studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, he held senior leadership positions within 1 Canadian Air Division and the Air Staff. Promoted to Major-General in 2021, he served as Chief of Staff at Canadian Joint Operations Command. In 2022, he assumed command of 1 Canadian Air Division and the Canadian NORAD Region (CANR), and in 2024, he was appointed Deputy Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.

In July 2025, following an earlier promotion to his current rank, Lieutenant-General Huddleston was appointed as Deputy Commander NORAD and Commander of the Canadian Element NORAD, positions he currently holds in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA.
