The Secretary of Defense visited the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command here May 7, 2020.
The Honorable Dr. Mark T. Esper received a COVID-19 briefing from the NORAD and USNORTHCOM commander, Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy, during his visit to the commands' headquarters located in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Secretary Esper and General O'Shaughnessy discussed how USNORTHCOM conducted COVID-19 response operations through virtual edge computing and cloud based servers. Secretary Esper also expressed his gratitude to NORAD and USNORTHCOM personnel for defending the homeland, while contributing to the whole-of-America response to the pandemic.
During the visit, Secretary Esper to a few moments to talk with local Colorado Springs media outlets. He discussed the military response for Coronavirus and answered a few questions, including about the new Space Force and the United States Space Command.
