PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark A. Milley presents the Defense Distinguished Service Medal to Air Force Gen. Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy, outgoing commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, during a change of command ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., Aug. 20, 2020. O’Shaughnessy retired after 34 years of service. A 1986 U.S. Air Force Academy distinguished graduate, O’Shaugnessy served as commander at various levels of command throughout his career, including NORAD and USNORTHCOM, Pacific Air Forces, Air Component Command-Republic of Korea, and 7th Air Force, Osan Air Base, Korea. He flew more than 3,000 hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon, including 168 combat hours. (U.S. Department of Defense photo by Thomas Paul)
