Blum assumes Deputy Commander, USNORTHCOM

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Army Lt. Gen. H Steven Blum took over as Deputy Commander, United States Northern Command, and Vice Commander, U.S. Element, North American Aerospace Defense Command (USELEMENORAD), from Army Lt. Gen. William G. Webster Jr. here today.

As the first National Guard officer to serve as a Deputy Combatant Commander at United States Northern Command, Blum will help lead the USNORTHCOM to anticipate, prepare and respond to threats and aggression aimed at the United States, its territories and interests within the assigned area of responsibility and, as directed by the President or Secretary of Defense, provide defense support of civil authorities including consequence management operations.

Webster will take over as commanding general, Third U.S. Army/U.S. Army Forces Central Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.
