NORAD celebrates 60 years of tracking Santa December 01, 2015 — PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The North American Aerospace Defense Command is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of tracking Santa’s yuletide journey! The NORAD TracksSanta website, www.noradsanta.org, launching Dec 1, features Santa’s North Pole Village, which includes a holiday countdown, games, activities, and more. The website is available in eight languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese. MORE
NORAD to conduct exercises near London November 18, 2015 — PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct exercise flights today as they practice intercept and identification procedures. NORAD to conduct exercises near Augusta and Savanna November 18, 2015 — PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct exercise flights today as they practice intercept and identification procedures. The exercise will occur near Augusta, Georgia and Savanna between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. EST. Although they are scheduled for the morning, the flights could be delayed for 24 hours or cancelled due to weather concerns. MORE
Update on JLENS Operational Exercise November 05, 2015 — On October 28, 2015, the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor (JLENS) Fire Control System (FCS) aerostat detached from its mooring station at G-Field on Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, and eventually grounded in a wooded area in northeast Pennsylvania. Update 3: Detached Military Aerostat Lands October 28, 2015 — PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – At approximately 4 p.m. EDT the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) Surveillance System aerostat landed in a rugged, wooded area in northeast Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania National Guard is working with local authorities to secure the area while technical recovery teams comprised of military and contracted personnel are enroute to the scene. MORE
UPDATE 2: Military Aerostat Detaches from Mooring October 28, 2015 — PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – The Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) surveillance system aerostat is on the ground. It is mostly deflated and located in the vicinity of Moreland Township, Pennsylvania. Local authorities are securing the area and there is a military recovery team enroute. MORE
