Media opportunity at NORAD’s 50th anniversary celebration

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Media are invited to cover the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s 50th anniversary celebration to be held May 12 and 13 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN MEDIA TOUR
WHERE: Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station Visitor Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

WHEN: May 12, 9:45 a.m. Tour will start at 10 a.m.
Media interested in attending must contact Major Tom Veale at (719) 474-2243 by 12 p.m. (MST) May 8. For security purposes, media are asked to provide names of people (including SSNs or SINs) as well as the make/model/serial numbers of any equipment being brought. Media contacting Maj Veale after May 8 will not be allowed to attend. If the equipment brought May 12 does not match the equipment list given on May 8, that equipment will not be allowed inside Cheyenne Mountain.

GOLDEN JUBILEE BALL
WHERE: Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, Colorado

WHEN: May 12, 6 p.m and 9 p.m.
Interview opportunities will be available during the reception starting at 6 p.m. in the Broadmoor Hall. Media will also have the opportunity to cover the speeches of our guest speakers, the Honorable Robert M. Gates, U.S. Secretary of Defense, and the Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Canada’s Minister of National Defense and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, that will begin at approximately 9 p.m.

TIME CAPSULE CEREMONY AND OPENING OF NEW COMMAND CENTER
WHERE: NORAD and USNORTHCOM Headquarters, Building 2, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

WHEN: May 13, 8 a.m. Media are requested to arrive at Peterson AFB Visitor Center no later than 6:30 a.m.
