PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Canadian Air Force Master Cpl. Ryan MacDonald, North American Aerospace Defense Command air defense technician, and Army Gen. Charles H. Jacoby, Jr., NORAD commander, cut the NORAD birthday cake at a special celebration at NORAD and U.S. Northern Command Headquarters May 11, 2012. The celebration commemorates the 54th anniversary of the signing of the NORAD Agreement on May 12, 1958. The NORAD Agreement has been renewed several times since then, the latest in May 2006 when the Maritime Warning mission was added to NORAD’s existing missions. The on-going adaptation of NORAD’s mission and capabilities to meet the challenges posed by ever-changing threats testifies to the strength of the NORAD Agreement and the close cooperation between Canada and the United States.
